remove.bg is shutting down. Here is what to use instead.

On 1 December 2026 remove.bg retires its standalone site, folds web removal into Canva and moves its API to Leonardo.Ai — plugins and automations included. Feyard does the same job entirely inside your browser: three model tiers, an edge brush, batch ZIP export, no uploads and no per-image fee.

The shutdown

What happens on 1 December 2026

remove.bg stops being a standalone product. Each surface goes somewhere different, and two of them go nowhere at all.

Four things to do before 1 December

    1

    Download what you already made

Pull every past remove.bg export you still need, plus the invoices. After the shutdown there is no account to log back into.

    2

    Spend or reclaim your credits

Unused prepaid credits do not carry over to Canva or Leonardo.Ai. Use them before 1 December 2026 or ask support about a refund.

    3

    Audit your automations

Any Zapier / Make scenario or Photoshop action built on remove.bg stops on the shutdown date. Replace the step now rather than after it silently fails.

    4

Decide where the photos should physically go

If the images are customer photos, medical scans or anything with a confidentiality clause, moving them to an on-device tool removes the vendor from your compliance scope entirely.

Feyard vs remove.bg vs Canva vs Photoroom vs Adobe Express

Every competitor below sends your photo to a server and charges for the round trip. The differences that matter are where the pixels are processed and what the free tier is allowed to be used for.

Your images never leave the device

Inference runs on WebGPU or WASM in the page itself. There is no upload endpoint, no retention policy to read, and nothing to delete afterwards — which also means no per-image bill.

Full resolution is free, and licensed for commercial use

remove.bg's free tier gives you a 0.25 MP preview and explicitly forbids commercial use. Every download here is full resolution, unwatermarked, and yours to sell with.

A brush that edits the mask, not the pixels

Touch-ups write into the alpha channel, so they survive a background swap, a shadow, an aspect change or a re-export at 4K. Pixel-based erasers have to be redone each time.

Batch 500 images into one ZIP, no credits

Drop a folder in, get a ZIP out. No credits, no queue position, no 500-images-per-minute tier to buy.

Try it on your own photo

Drop an image in. The model downloads once, then everything runs on your device — including this page being free to reload as often as you like.
